Artist Statement

“Beaten paths are for beaten men.”

As adventure photographers, this has been our mantra. Whether climbing or hiking to the summit of a mountain peak or descending into the depths of a desert canyon, we are drawn by the less travelled paths to capture as naturally as possible the astounding, diverse beauty of unusual and remote places. We venture where others only dream of going. From the music of a gurgling mountain stream winding its way through a flower-strewn meadow, to sculpted canyon walls and the mystical, erosional shapes of the red-rock country, we desire to share these wonders with others who may never have the opportunity or be able to venture into these places. We specialize in the Rocky Mountain west and the intriguing desert wonders of the Colorado Plateau. We seek to capture these places in natural light and to bring to affordable print form, a scene that’s as close to what the human eye sees as possible. A still reflection, pristine snow fields, a hillside aflame with fall colors, the brilliance of a sunset, the grandeur of rugged mountain peaks, the delicacy of a wildflower; - all these inspire us to capture in digital format just a small sample of the Creator’s glorious creation for others to appreciate as well. We desire to not only capture what the eye saw, but what the heart felt.

About the ArtistS

Tim and Carrie Cooney, married for over 45 years now have made a career of the outdoors. Among the climbing/peak-bagging community, they’ve become known as “The Climbing Cooney’s.” While climbing Colorado’s highest peaks has been one of their foremost activities, they also enjoy road biking, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, cross country and downhill skiing, canyoneering and visiting locales most people will never see in person. Their many adventures enable them to not only experience, but also photograph some extraordinary locations in the Rocky Mountains and the deserts of the Colorado Plateau. Not being photographers in the more traditional sense, they refer to themselves as “adventure photographers,” because the journey is as much about the adventure as it is the photographs they bring back. The advent of digital cameras lured them back into photography. The advancements made in digital photo processing has opened new doors of creativity and offered the opportunity to display the wonders of our surrounding landscapes in eye-catching colors and detail so that the printed photo more closely resembles both “what the eye saw and what the heart felt.” Having climbed all of Colorado’s ranked, fourteen thousand and thirteen thousand foot peaks, and a total lifetime combined ascents of over 1,900 summits, Tim and Carrie delight in bringing to the public by way of their photography and lectures, the exhilaration of the mountain terrain and the mesmerizing colors and forms of the “canyon country.” Through their photography, experience the remote places you may never have an opportunity to see in person. Join them now on this journey as they share the beauties and wonders of this glorious creation of the Creator God who brought it all into existence.

All of the photos presented here may be printed in any of the formats displayed: matted print, canvas wrap, plaque mount or dye-infused aluminum; and they may also be printed in custom sizes. Each is of the highest quality and fully guaranteed.
