SUMMER 2008 THIS LITTLE PIGGY DAY CAMP

Register now for kid's art classes! Instructor: Amber Streweler. Classes are held Monday through Friday 10:00 to Noon. Tuition $20 per day. Ages 5 - 13. Week long sessions take place August 4 - 8 and August 11 - 15. Class lessons include painting and drawing, art appreciation and color study. The professional artists at The Blue Pig Gallery know that color study is a life long endeavor. This Little Piggy Art Camp will explore how color is used to communicate through art and how the primary colors can create more than just a rainbow. Some individual study is available, too. Ask Amber about the art lesson that's right for you or your "little piggy."

Instruction in all media begins in September. Six week and four week classes, weekend and one day workshops.



OIL PAINTING CLASSES

  • Painting with Oils - Instructor: David Cook. Tuition $120.
    Two 5 week sessions offered Tuesdays, September 9th through October 7th, 1:00 - 4:00 OR Thursdays, October 23 through November 20, 9:00 - Noon.
    This class will explore and explain. David is a lifelong painter who uses demonstrations, instruction and summary handouts to pass along practical lessons in classical landscape painting.


  • Beginning Oil I and II - Instructor: Sara Alyn Oakley. Tuition $150 each session or $275 for both.             
    Two 6 week sessions offered Oil I, Tuesdays, through September 9th - October 14th, 6:00 - 9:00 pm .  Oil II, Tuesdays, November 4th through 18th and December 2nd through December 16th, 6:00 - 9:00 pm.
    In Oil I, Oakley teaches her very direct approach to painting in oil from the basics of handling the medium through expressive use of color, palette knife and brush strokes. In Oil II, the study moves on to surface prep, Imprimatura and glazing, finishing techniques and contemporary design.


PASTEL CLASSES

  • Beginning Traditional Pastel - Instructor: Peg Oswald. Tuition $150.
    Two 6 week sessions offered Mondays September 8th through October 6th plus Oct 20, 9:30 - 12:30 pm OR Mondays, November 3rd through December 8th, 1:00 - 4:00 pm .
    A seasoned teacher, known for her serene still life and landscape studies, Oswald introduces the new artist to pastel techniques that produce results from realism to impressionism.


  • Figures in Pastel - Instructor: Kimmer Jepson-High. Tuition $150.
    6 week Class offered Mondays, November 3rd through December 8th, 6:00 - 9:00 pm.
    This class will dispel the “Fear of figures,” while exploring techniques in selecting good reference materials, sketching technique, and color choices for creating great, expressive human figure paintings.


WATERCOLOR CLASSES

  • Beginning Watercolor - Instructor: Sandy King. Tuition $135.
    6 Week Class offered Wednesdays, September 10th through October 15, 9:00 - Noon.
    A complete introduction to the art of watercolor, from understanding materials through basic brush strokes and color mixing.


  • Intermediate Watercolor - , Instructor: Sandy King. Tuition $135.
    6 Week Class offered Wednesdays, October 29th through December 3rd, 9:00 - Noon.
    An intensive program of more advanced techniques, color, brushwork and style.


DRAWING CLASSES

  • Introduction to Drawing - Instructor: Mary Moss. Tuition $100.
    4 Week Class Fridays, October 10 through 31, 9:00 - Noon.
    Introduction to the fundamentals of drawing: the prerequisite for advancement in most every other media in art. We will explore techniques and materials, using value to create form and capturing a likeness.


  • Intermediate Drawing - Instructor: Mary Moss. Tuition $100
    4 Week Class Fridays, November 7th through 28, 9:00 - Noon.
    This class will continue with the elements presented in the beginning class and lead you into drawing as an art form in itself.

WEEKEND WORKSHOPS

The weekend format serves as an intensive and interruption-free time for expanding creativity and discovering new approaches to making art.

  • Glass Bead Making - Instructor: Joseph Brown. Tuition $250 with all materials supplied.
    Two day Workshop. Saturdays and Sundays (through November), 9:00 - 3:00 pm.

  • Basic Photography – Instructor: Richard Kaylin. Tuition $60.
    One Day Workshop. Saturday, October 18th ~ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.  
    An introductory course for using digital or film cameras. Learn about the camera's functions designed to help you take better pictures. Study techniques of “capturing light” and the rules of composition and other principles that make up both a technically good and interesting photograph.


  • Manifesting Your Creative Vision - Instructor: Rick Kaylin. Tuition $60.  
    Two day Workshop. Saturday and Sunday, November 1st & 2nd ~ 10am - 1pm.
    Left brain is linear, logical, on point; Right brain is fluid, irrational, obscure, but filled with our native creativity. Art comes from this mysterious place. This class is for people who want to work on ways to better take what is “inside” and make it real on the ”outside” through one's art.


  • Collage & Creativity Clinics – Instructor: Gayle Gerson. Tuition $100.  
    Two Day Workshops. Three Sessions: Workshop 1 ~ September 20 & 21; Workshop 2 ~ October 11 and 12; Workshop 3 ~ November 15 & 16. Each workshop is 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
    These classes work well for people who have “dabbled” as well as established artists who are looking for new artistic avenues to explore. Gayle will present creative exercises during the morning sessions which employ water media and collage techniques. Afternoons will be devoted to working toward a finished piece using the morning exercises as a painting and collage “ground”. The focus will be on composition and intent.

Don’t forget to pick up your supply list. Materials for all of the above classes are not provided. You may wish to allow enough time to order your supplies by phone or internet. Some supply lists have sources, too.

ADULT CLAY CLASS
Classes are held in Tim Wedel's studio (3819 N. River Road) and will be co-taught with Yoshiko Izumi. If you would like to volunteer to assist, call Tim at the studio (464-7795).

    • R U A Basket Case? - Instructors: Tim Wedel and Yoshiko Izumi. Tuition $100.
      Two Day Workshop. Saturday & Sunday, October 11th and 12th ~ 9:00 - Noon.
      Day 1 -Basic ceramic techniques, demonstrating the production of ceramic baskets, and building your own basket.
      Day 2: Finish what you've started or proceed to a bigger project. All pieces will be glazed at the studio, fired, and ready to be picked up at a scheduled date. If you need more time, the studio will be open both afternoons until 3:00.

    KID’S CLAY CLASSES
    Parents, please note: These are actual classes, held in a professional artist's studio. Students must be mature enough to listen and respect the facility while working independently in a group setting.

    • MUD PIES – For Ages 9-12. Saturday, September 27th ~ 9:00 - 11:30 am. Tuition $24. Class limited to 8 students.
      This experiential class for kids covers the basics of hand building with clay. Students will be guided in creating unique and beautiful functional pots using the coil, slab, and slump techniques.


    • MASKS & EMOTIONS – For Ages 11-13. Saturday, October 18th ~ 9:00 -11:30 am. Tuition $24.
      Halloween is approaching! Tim and Yoshiko have designed a mask class where kids will explore the different faces we make when expressing emotion, and express their own creativity and vision, spooky or otherwise, using hand building techniques. The pieces will be fired and ready before Halloween.


    • HEY TURKEY! Got 15 Minutes? - For Ages 2 – 12. Saturday, November 8th ~ Open between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. $20 for the first print, $12 each additional print. 
      Make an appointment and report to Tim's studio to imprint a hand or foot in clay. The kids will sign or stamp their name on the piece. This should only take fifteen minutes or so. The children's creations will be glazed, fired and ready for pickup before Thanksgiving.  These hand and footprints are awesome and make great gifts.

    • Note: If you wish to plan your own workshop or class, many of our instructors can schedule special times and address specific subject matter. These sessions are subject to availability of the teaching studio. Call instructors for schedules and fees. Phone numbers are available at the Gallery.

    Space is limited for all classes and reservations are held only with full payment. We request cash or check payments only. In cases where payments will be mailed to the gallery your seat may be held with a credit card. In the event the card must be charged, there will be a late fee. Ask the gallery for details. We charge a $10 fee for cancellations. No refunds after classes have commenced.

    The Blue Pig Class Room is located toward the rear of the building and has separate entrance. Several classes begin before the gallery is open. The entrance for the classroom is on the patio, off the parking lot.
